[Photo] [AIESEC] Exchange Fair 2012

Yesterday I went to ITB to visit one of AIESEC main event this term, which was exchange fair. There were lots of booths from various countries which not only displayed unique goods, but also traditional foods. I don’t remember all the countries that participated, but I think I visited Poland, Thailand, Turkey, and China’s booths (I’m sure there’re other though). Beside that, TBI (english course) also open a booth while offering special discount for registration fee. There were also several talkshows, though I only managed to attend one (my mom want to go somewhere else.. haha). And… these are the photos of the event:

[Photo] Dreamy Look Photos

Last week I went to Pangandaran for 4 days with my friends and one soon-to-be-married-couple. I was asked to help my friend taking pre-wedding photos and even though I was not paid, I though it would be a good opportunity to get some good pictures for my portfolio (newbie’s way of thinking… hahaha). *Note: The entirely time there, I used my new 50mm f/ 1.8 fixed lens :))

Yesterday when I sorting the pictures & browsing the internet, one of my facebook friend post a link that showed some dreamy-look photos (http://www.petapixel.com/2012/02/06/dreamlike-photographs-of-insects-found-in-a-garden/). Looking at those, I though this might work well with some pictures I took at Pangandaran, and so I tried to apply it at one of them. Here is the result…

What do you think? I’m not sure I was using the right method to make this kind of editing (doubled the layer, make the color over & blur, change it into overlay, then come some leveling) since I haven’t get the right tutorial yet, so if any of you know the right step, please leave comments below :)).

*Hm… I notice something from my new lens when I did this pre-wedding photography. It does have nice colors and small focus, leaving the rest of the picture in blur. But sometimes it gave not-that-nice bokeh, it’s too rough for my taste and in several occasions, ruin (or almost) the images. What a pity… -> price never lie huh?

Wow, It’s been almost 8 months huh?

Your first 10,000 photographs are your worst.

 Henri Cartier-Bresson

Do you know how many photos you have taken up until now? You will have to take thousands of pictures to reach a point where you can begin to evaluate them objectively. Looking upon your photos as if you were looking at them through someone else’s eyes is a good way to give yourself constructive criticism. Comparing your first photos with your most recent, do you see improvement? Do you remember how you loved some of your first photos – do you still love them or are they now not so good anymore? – http://www.digital-photography-school.com

It’s been almost 7 or 8 months since the first time I learn how to use DSLR camera. Before, I already had experience with pocket camera but I didn’t really treat photography that serious and it just a tool to document what I see. But all of that changed 180 degrees when I toke photography class at campus. It’s like I started to see the world from all different perspectives, and soon I knew that it was one of several fields that I would like to explore more for (I hope) the rest of my life.

I remember my earlier shots which more or less were only about how to do one or two techniques. I felt proud when I successfully took one or two pictures that were exactly (or so I though) like what my lecture asked. But now when I looked at those pictures, one question that always come to my mind is, ‘What the heck am I thinking when I took these garbages?‘. They have no story, and the technique is not even that good (some even bad), so of course I feel kind of stupid.

However, even though now I’m still feel like that whenever I saw the pictures, and I also not a professional yet (far from it), I’m glad I did all those shots. Because I brave enough to try and toke those bad shots, now I can take a better one. If I’m too afraid to make mistake and have flaw in my portfolio, I wouldn’t be able to take much-better-shots that I have today. And so I hope this will keep going until at one point when I’m already a professional and have bunch of amazing pictures (oh yeah, I still allowed to dream. Hahaha) and then look back while feeling grateful of everything that I have already done.

So I think this will be one of my resolution this year, keep shooting with my lovely camera and take as much as pictures as I want, no matter how bad or good it will be. And also I really want to try lots of new things, coz who know if I can find my other passion there. Fufufu….

*Note: I really fortunate that I had an amazing teacher (Andry Alamsyah) who not only taught me about photography technique, but also how to interact with the object of my shot. So, thanks Sir for everything and I really want to do some photo huntings with you again in the future…

[Photo] The Lonely Boy

This afternoon (well, almost evening) when I just arrived at home, I saw a boy sitting beside the tree trunk inside a rubber-tyre almost in front of my house. When I saw him, I had an urge to take photos of the scene. So as soon as I parked my car inside, I put my bags on the top of my bed and run to grab my camera while hopping the boy will still sitting there. Then when I saw he was, I took several pictures. Here they are.

As a newbie at photography, I would like to know what you, readers, think about it. I’ll appreciate every comments and critics about them 🙂
